Kimberly Ramos

Undergraduate School/degree:

University of Scranton, BS, Accounting

Background – where are you from originally?

Liberty, NY

Past work/leadership experience/activities in college

I’ve had a wide array of finance experience in the 15+ years since obtaining my undergraduate degree. I currently work as a Senior Tax Associate for a large public company doing federal compliance, provision, and reporting. I have previously worked on their state and local tax team. My prior positions include working for a CPA tax firm doing personal and small business and being the fiscal officer of a private non profit community action agency.

What type of job would you like to have after completing the MAC Program?

I plan to stay on the tax team at my current company. I am also part of a special task team at my company where we are in the initial stages of automating and applying new technologies to improve our tax processes. I hope to utilize the MAC program to contribute to this project.

Do you have any advice or tips you would like to give prospective students looking at applying to MAC programs?

I was hesitant to apply, as it has been a number of years since I was in school but I encourage you to reach out and ask the admissions team questions! I found they were very helpful and reassuring. If this is something you want to achieve they will help give you the tools to make it happen.

Why did you choose the NC State MAC Program?

I initially found NC State while looking for tax analytics programs that I wanted to pursue. I inquired about the Tax Analytics and Technology Certificate and, as I gathered more information, I realized that getting a Master’s in Accounting could be a reality rather than a pipedream I had written off.

What are your expectations while attending the MAC Program?

I plan to attend part time online and am ready to have to work hard for a number of years to succeed at graduate school and my full time job. I have taken one summer course so far and have found it to be exactly the program I was looking for.

What are you looking forward to the most while in the Program?

I am most looking forward to the classes related to tax analytics and technology. I know this skill set is integral to all future roles in finance and it is a knowledge gap I am eager to fill. On a more personal level, I have always wanted a master’s degree and felt like it was not in the cards for me until now.
