Real-World Experiences

MAC students and faculty work hand-in-hand with corporate, public accounting, government and nonprofit partners to find solutions to real business challenges and facilitate learning.

Experiential Learning

MAC students will find their graduate courses to not be your typical lecture by the professor standing in front of the room. Every day in the classroom is different and includes real world case studies and team projects. Teamwork is a big component of the program and prepares students to work in diverse groups after graduation. MAC faculty have professional work experience and bring that to the classroom, providing an in-depth and first hand look into the work students will be experiencing in the future.

Real Audit Experience

In ACC 550, Advanced Auditing, Scott Showalter leads students in auditing sections of NC State’s Sustainability Report. This exercise involves real world experiences to sharpen knowledge and practical decision making skills.

Real-World Topics

Bonnie Hancock starts her ACC 519, Applied Financial Management, class each day with a student-led discussion of a business news article from the Wall Street Journal. The semester ends with a final project competition covering a controversial merger or acquisition that is currently in the news such as an attempted hostile take-over.  One group of students represents the company attempting to make the hostile takeover and the another group of students represents the company fending off the hostile takeover.

Practicum Projects with Corporate Partners

In the Jenkins MAC program students get hands-on experience with practicum projects. In ACC 540, IT Risks and Controls, they work with companies to evaluate risks and controls for core business processes. Students that concentrate in Enterprise Risk Management work in a hands-on capacity with executive management of an organization to advance its ERM processes.

It was a great experience working with a real business and making professional recommendations that were received so positively.
