Accelerated BA/MAC (ABM) Program

Accelerate your path to a MAC degree by completing bachelor's and master's degree requirements at a faster pace.

The Accelerated Bachelor’s/Master’s (ABM) program allows exceptional NC State undergraduate students an opportunity to complete the requirements for both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees at an accelerated pace. To accomplish the acceleration, NC State undergraduate students are allowed to take MAC classes as an undergraduate and have the MAC credit hours double count for both the bachelor’s and master’s degrees.

ABM Student Eligibility Requirements

  • Students must have completed a minimum of seventy-five (75) credit hours in the undergraduate program, including credits earned from advanced placement.
  • Transfer students must have completed a minimum of two semesters as a full-time student at NC State, a minimum of 24 hours.
  • Students must have a minimum accumulated grade point average (GPA) of 3.50/4.00 at NC State at the time of admission into the ABM program.

Application Process for ABM Program

If a student meets the eligibility requirements above:

  •  Students should apply to the ABM Program during their Junior year, most likely during the second semester of their Junior year.
  • Contact Director of the MAC program, Scott Showalter, to determine likelihood of being accepted into the program prior to beginning the process.
  • Schedule a meeting with professor of accounting, Dr. Eileen Taylor, and the Director of the MAC Program, Scott Showalter, to develop Plans of Work for the Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programs.
  • If it is confirmed that the prospective student qualifies for the ABM Program, they will be provided a copy of the program guidelines.
  • Submit the standard MAC Program application for admission to the Graduate School. In addition, a Plan of Graduate Work, signed by the prospective student and the Directors of Undergraduate Accounting and MAC Program must be submitted.
  • Upon review of the materials submitted by the Directors of the MAC and Undergraduate Accounting programs to the Graduate School, a letter of acceptance (or denial) to the MAC program, contingent on meeting the ABM requirements, will be sent to the student with a copy to the Directors of the MAC and Undergraduate Accounting programs.

Requirements for Participation in ABM and Graduation

  • Students must complete the Bachelor’s degree prior to entering the MAC program.
  • Students must receive a grade of B (3.00/4.00) or better in each of the double counted graduate level (500 level or above) courses. Courses with a grade of B- or below will not be double counted between the two degrees.
  • No more than twelve (12) hours of graduate level work may be counted towards the requirements of both degrees.
  • Students must complete the MAC degree within 12 months from the completion of the Bachelor’s degree. If the MAC program is not completed within these time limits, none of the courses will be double counted.
