Kathy Krawczyk Named Accounting Department Head

NC State Poole College of Management names Kathy Krawczyk, Dixon Hughes Goodman Professor of accounting, as the new chair of the accounting department effective July 1. Krawczyk previously served as interim department head from 2018 and director of the Master of Accounting program from 2004-2018.

“Dr. Krawczyk did an excellent job of leading the Master of Accounting program to national prominence as the director of the program,” said Frank Buckless, Stephen P. Zelnak Jr. Dean of Poole College. “I look forward to working with her as we continue to elevate our accounting department to greater heights.”

As the accounting department chair, Krawczyk will provide leadership to academic, research and extension programs and will continue to uphold the department’s reputation for excellence. She will represent, promote and advocate for the department across the college and NC State and create an environment that facilitates an effective shared vision. 

Krawczyk’s areas of expertise include accounting education and student success, decision making by accounting and tax professionals, and professional responsibilities. In her time at NC State, she has received the Ernst & Young Faculty Excellence Award in 2001 and the PCOM Board of Governor’s Teaching Excellence Award in 2000,  as well as being named NC State Alumni Distinguished Undergraduate Professor in 2002 and NC State Outstanding Teacher in 1999. 

Krawczyk received her doctorate degree in accounting from the University of Texas in 1992 and her master’s degree in accounting in 1981 from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
