Nathan Goldman, the Dean’s Professor of Accounting at Poole College of Management, joined the One Leg Up With Alex Garrett podcast in light of his recent interview with the New York Post. The two spoke about a wide range of topics, including the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, changes in the SALT deduction cap, New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s proposed taxes on the wealthy and the discontinuation of IRS Direct File.

On the effects of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, Goldman acknowledges that “even though this is putting more money in taxpayers pockets, it’s kind of unclear as to what the actual net impacts will be and it might take several years to really understand how this increase to the deficit is going to transpire downwards.”

He also discusses the proposed tariff dividend, and notes that it takes more than executive branch approval. “When we’re talking about ‘is this actually legal,’ we’re really talking about Congressional approval, and as we know, with what’s going on with Congress these days, getting congressional approval to cross the street would be difficult. At this point, this is something that will require a lot of rounds back and forth.”
