Scott Showalter Receives 2022 AICPA Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award

The American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) will be honoring Scott Showalter, director of the Jenkins MAC Program and professor of practice in accounting, with the annual Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award. This award recognizes full-time college accounting educators who are distinguished for excellence in teaching and have achieved national prominence in the accounting profession.

Prior to joining Poole, Showalter spent 33 years as a CPA and audit partner for KPMG and has since served as a member of the AICPA Board of Directors, a board member of the International Public Sector Accounting Standards Board, past chair of the Federal Accounting Standards Advisory Board and past chair of the North Carolina Association of CPAs.

“There is no one more deserving of the Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award than Scott Showalter,” said Roby Sawyers, accounting department head. “The award by the AICPA recognizes an accounting educator distinguished for excellence in teaching and for national prominence in the accounting profession. During his career in the Department of Accounting at Poole College, Scott has served as director of our Master in Accounting program and has been an outstanding teacher and mentor to hundreds of undergraduate and graduate students.”

This year’s awards will be presented at the annual meeting of the American Accounting Association in San Diego.

“I have been very fortunate to have such a full and rewarding career in an accounting profession that includes both practice and academia,” said Showalter.
