NC State Poole College Names Johnson Lambert and Patheon Employer of the Year

Johnson Lambert and Patheon were each named Employer of the Year for 2017 by the NC State University Poole College of Management. This award was established to recognize the many ways that companies collaborate with the college in support of students’ professional development.

The Employer of the Year award recipients were announced at the conclusion of Poole College’s Ninth Annual Leadership and Innovation Showcase, held at the college on April 20. More than 60 student teams presented results of their practicum and other applied learning projects and competed for scholarship awards.

“Employer engagement is a key contributor to the success of our students, providing not only real world projects that complement classroom instruction but also through the perspective and insight they provide in collaboration with our career development team,” said Annette L. Ranft, Stephen P. Zelnak Jr. Chair and dean of the Poole College of Management.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by NC State,” said Gary Shope, chief of staff at Patheon. He accepted the award on behalf of the company along with Rebecca HollandNew, executive vice president for enterprise-wide operations at Patheon.

“We have established a strong partnership with the university and have been pleased to support their efforts to develop skilled and talented workers who are well-prepared to work at Patheon and companies across various cutting edge industries,” Shope said. “We anticipate working with other programs at the university as well as with Poole College in continuing to build a world-class workforce as well as innovative thought leaders for the future of our company.”

Patheon has been a strong supporter of the college’s Jenkins MBA program, participating in mock career fairs, networking events and panel discussions, among other activities.

Johnson Lambert actively recruits interns from Poole College’s Bachelor of Accounting program and is a strong supporter of the college’s Jenkins MAC Program, hiring several MAC graduates each year. The firm also provides student financial support through the Poole College Department of Accounting’s Firm Fellowship program.

“Johnson Lambert is always looking for ways to make sure its brand on campus stays strong,” said Kathy Krawczyk, Dixon Hughes Goodman Professor and director of the Jenkins MAC program. “The company takes part in student group meetings, our AIR student mentor program, mock interviews, among other activities.”

The firm’s involvement with the college has been long-standing: three of its partners/principals are Jenkins MAC alumni, including Lauren Williams, principal, who accepted the award on the firm’s behalf, along with fellow alumnus Allan Autry, senior manager.

“We look forward to continuing our longstanding relationship with faculty, staff and students at the college, and we are humbled by this honor,” says Sara Huddleston, M.Ed., SPHR, director of human resources at Johnson Lambert.
