“All Poole College students are encouraged to participate in the pre-career fair events,” said Brian Newton, director of the college’s Career Center (Undergraduate Programs) and Poole College Career and Internship Fair coordinator.

These events are not only for students approaching graduation in a year or two, Newton said. “All students benefit from engaging with recruiters early and often, to learn about and prepare to talk with recruiters about career and internship opportunities.” View the full Career Week schedule here

The panelists “are all veteran Peer Career Coaches who have completed internship experiences with employers in various industries,” said Whitney McLaughlin, a graduate student in NC State’s College of Education and graduate teaching assistant working with Poole College’s career development team. “Each has attended the career fair at least once and they have all helped the career team prepare for this event last year.”

Devon Farrell, who has been a Peer Career Coach since fall 2018, said he decided to be a PCC “because it is a unique opportunity to give back to Poole College and to help make it the best it can be. I love getting to work with students and help them to prepare for the real world, which is what school is supposed to be all about. It also has gone a long way in helping me personally develop, both with my interpersonal skills and learning how to best present myself to employers.” Learn more about the PCCs at their website.
