Chris Tandy

Undergraduate School/degree:

Appalachian State University

Background – where are you from originally?

I was born in Wilson, NC and moved to Cary, NC when I was 12 to start middle school. I then moved to Raleigh, NC for college after I graduated in 2015. My parents live in Clayton, NC but besides the two years I was in Boone, NC, at Appalachian State, I have lived in Raleigh, NC since graduating high school.

Past work/leadership experience/activities in college

I have mostly worked in the food industry, which has taught me how to handle high stress situations, with quick deadlines and constant multi-tasking. I have also worked as a caddie in the summer in high school and as a landscaper while I attended Wake Tech. While at App State, I was a member of Beta Alpha Psi, AppState Accountants/student chapter of the IMA and a few other honor societies.

What type of job would you like to have after completing the MAC Program?

I have accepted an offer with CohnReznick in Charlotte, NC for September 2022 in their audit department.

Do you have any advice or tips you would like to give prospective students looking at applying to MAC programs?

Reach out to the amazing people in the office for the MAC Program and ask about expectations to insure you can be a competitive applicant. Set yourself up in undergrad to have the opportunity to portray your best self, such as working to obtain the highest GPA possible and participating in as many activities on campus as possible. Reach out to current teachers to ask them about recommendations, as well as to help you edit your application in any way possible. This is an incredible program and you will need to portray your best self in your application if you want to get in.

Why did you choose the NC State MAC Program?

The experience of the faculty, the concentrations offered, the location and the overall reputation of the program.

What are your expectations while attending the MAC Program?

To further my accounting knowledge, while making as many connections as possible with other students and to ultimately be as prepared as possible for the CPA.

What are you looking forward to the most while in the Program?

I could not be more excited to have this opportunity to learn and expand my accounting knowledge surrounded by bright peers and some of the best professors in the country. I’m looking forward to taking the Enterprise Risk Management class and seminar and getting to collaborate with other students to complete required tasks.
