When to take the CPA exam?

The goal for most MAC students is to sit and pass the CPA exam and that is our goal for students as well. Below are two tracks that have been suggested by past students. Please note that if you do not have a firm covering the cost of Becker CPA review materials, this cost will not be covered by the Jenkins MAC Program in the summer.

CPA Tracks

The following tracks are options that we suggest and MAC students in the past have recommended.  The first option is the traditional path that NCSU MAC Students take:

NC State MAC Program Recommendation:

  • December/January – review for BEC, schedule BEC exam
  • January/February – sit for BEC exam
  • March – schedule Audit, FAR & REG exams
  • April/May – review for Audit
  • May – sit for Audit exam
  • June – review for REG
  • Beginning of July – sit for REG
  • July/August – review for FAR
  • August – sit for FAR

The following option was recommended by previous MAC students who had extra free time in the summer and wanted to get ahead.  If you meet the requirements for the state you are applying in, then this could be an option for you. This is an option that other students in the past have had success doing:

  • June/July – schedule and review for FAR**
  • August – sit for FAR in the beginning of August
  • December/January – review for BEC, schedule BEC exam
  • January/February – sit for BEC exam
  • March – schedule Audit & REG exams
  • April/May – review for Audit
  • May – sit for Audit exam
  • June – review for REG
  • Beginning of July – sit for REG

**Note: Consider that Advanced Financial Accounting is not taken until Spring Semester and is beneficial for the FAR exam.
